เทคโนโลยีอาหารเม็ดนิ่ม: นวัตกรรมการล็อกความชุ่มชื้นและคงคุณค่าทางโภชนาการในอาหารสัตว์เลี้ยง
ตลาดอาหารสัตว์เลี้ยงของไทยยังคงเติบโตอย่างต่อเนื่องจากแนวโน้มการเลี้ยงสัตว์เสมือนสมาชิกในครอบครัว ขณะที่การแข่งขันในตลาดทวีความรุนแรงขึ้น ทำให้นวัตกรรมกลายเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญในการสร้างความแตกต่างของผลิตภัณฑ์ หนึ่งในเทคโนโลยีที่ได้รับความสนใจคืออาหารสัตว์เลี้ยงแบบกึ่งแห้งกึ่งเปียก หรือ “อาหารเม็ดนิ่ม” (Semi-moist Pet Food)
อาหารเม็ดนิ่มผลิตด้วยกระบวนการอัดรีด (Extrusion) เช่นเดียวกับอาหารเม็ดแห้ง แต่ใช้อุณหภูมิและความดันต่ำกว่า ส่งผลให้ผลิตภัณฑ์มีเนื้อสัมผัสนุ่มและมีความชื้นสูงกว่า จึงเหมาะสำหรับสัตว์เลี้ยงสูงวัยหรือสัตว์เลี้ยงที่กินยาก นอกจากนี้ ยังสามารถใช้วัตถุดิบโปรตีนคุณภาพสูงในสัดส่วนที่มากขึ้น ช่วยเพิ่มความน่ารับประทานและคุณค่าทางโภชนาการ อย่างไรก็ตาม ความชื้นที่สูงขึ้นทำให้อาหารเม็ดนิ่มมีความเสี่ยงต่อการเสื่อมเสียจากจุลินทรีย์และเชื้อรา จึงต้องอาศัยสารกักเก็บความชุ่มชื้น และสารถนอมคุณภาพอาหาร เพื่อควบคุมค่า Water Activity และยืดอายุการเก็บรักษา
ข้อได้เปรียบสำคัญของอาหารเม็ดนิ่ม คือ การคงคุณค่าของสารอาหารที่ไวต่อความร้อน เช่น โปรตีน วิตามิน และแร่ธาตุ ได้ดีกว่าอาหารเม็ดแห้ง อีกทั้งยังมีเนื้อสัมผัสนุ่ม เคี้ยวง่าย และมีกลิ่นรสที่ดึงดูดสัตว์เลี้ยงมากกว่า จึงเป็นทางเลือกที่ช่วยสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มและความแตกต่างให้กับผลิตภัณฑ์ในตลาดอาหารสัตว์เลี้ยงยุคใหม่ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

Thailand’s pet food market continues to expand, driven by the growing trend of treating pets as family members. As competition intensifies, innovation has become a key strategy for product differentiation. One emerging solution is semi-moist pet food, commonly known as soft kibble.
Soft kibble is produced using extrusion technology, similar to dry pet food, but at lower temperatures and pressures. This results in a softer texture and higher moisture content, making it particularly suitable for senior pets and picky eaters. In addition, formulations can incorporate higher proportions of high-quality protein ingredients, enhancing both palatability and nutritional value. However, the higher moisture content also increases the risk of microbial and mold growth. Therefore, manufacturers rely on humectants and food preservation agents to control water activity (aw) and extend shelf life while maintaining product quality.
One of the major advantages of soft kibble is its ability to better preserve heat-sensitive nutrients, including proteins, vitamins, and minerals, compared with conventional dry kibble. The softer texture also improves chewability, while higher meat inclusion levels contribute to a more appealing aroma and taste.
As a result, soft kibble offers a combination of enhanced nutrition, improved texture, and superior palatability, providing manufacturers with an effective way to create added value and differentiate products in a highly competitive pet food market. Nevertheless, selecting pet food that matches a pet’s species, age, health condition, and lifestyle remains essential for ensuring optimal nutrition and long-term well-being.
