SMART PRODUCTION
Electrodialysis is an electrochemical separation
process in which ions from the treated liquid (Sugar
solution) are transferred through ion-exchange
membranes from one solution (Feed/dilute) to another
solution (Brine/concentrate) under the influence of direct
voltage between difference two electrodes. The charged
components are attracted to the cathode or anode and
collected in the concentrate stream. The product, organic
non-ionic compounds, is retained in the dilute stream.
So, unwanted by-products of chemical and enzymatic
conversion can be therefore, easily removed. In addition,
the removed components could often be recovered and
returned to the reaction stage as the required reactant
or catalyst, or pH controlling agent.
The apparent advantages of this electrochemical
technology are improving sugar yields, reducing waste
