“I was growing up as the fourth generation of a German butcher business, which we considered as our
family’s traditional trade for over 119 years to date. Certainly, growing up, I had the determination to develop
this business to the next step. This was the beginning to my inspiration to master the delicate science of meat
processing. Since then I have persevered to study, explore, and train as much as I could until I could pass
the examination to be certified as a “Professional German Master Butcher”. Moreover, I led the German
National Team for an international sausage competition, an event equivalent to the Olympics for the meat
industry, which I am proud to claim world championship,” Mr.Axel Arras, Managing Director of FPT Food
Process Technology Group of Companies, recounted to Food Focus Thailand about his background before
becoming an executive for a leading processing and packaging machinery distributor and servicing company
in the food industry.
During the past 15 years, first starting in the Thai food industry,
FPT has become more and more widely known in the SEA region,
especially as an integrated turn-key distributor and provider for cutting-
edge meat processing technology mainly from Germany and other
European countries. The company’s size has expanded significantly from just a handful of employees
distributing a few machinery brands in 2004. Now, the company is very successfully operating with
several local offices around the Asia and Middle East continents. At present, FPT boasts 14 international
offices for supporting the food industry throughout these regions. Unquestionably, the company’s
reputation and high recognition in the market has been established.
Mr.Arras remarked, “At FPT, we are committed to the vision, ‘To be the Most Admired Services

our strengths by establishing an International Innovative Technology Center (IITC) where our customers
can visit to share and research on new ideas. Then, they can have real experiments with actual products
on actual production machines with guidance from our team of food technologist experts. This IITC will
also be a knowledge center for food-related science faculties for top universities and research faculties.”
“Although the food processing industry overall has been transformed from time to time, the driving
factor of production has constantly been to follow the trends in the market. Likewise, we can see the
same trend in the meat processing industry in which health and environmental concerns are playing a
more and more significant role. For instance, the concerns about plastic waste and carbon footprint
reduction are also becoming a few leading issues of concern which we must accept is mainly caused
by the packaging requirement trends.”
“FPT places high emphasis on product innovation. With my own personal interest in high quality
food manufacturing, we have always strived for the development of high quality sausages, as well as
fully or semi-automatic production processes, that must be integrated with new machine technologies,
since current production trends still focus on time reduction, labor reduction, increased automation, and
precise food traceability, while still maintaining product quality.”
“For the last 9 years, FPT has motivated several leading Asian sausage producers in participating
in the world sausage competition during IFFA exhibitions, which is organized by the German Butchers’
Association (DFV), resulting in FPT customers bringing gold medals to their homes. This is just a part
of our achievements, which shows that we are not only a company that focuses only on selling, but we
are also determined to work and develop with our customers, supported from our partners, at every
step, both directly and indirectly,” he explained.
“In the past, we were constantly trying to present the importance of automation to the food industry. At present, we are providing state-of-
the-art equipment for the transition from Industry 3.0 to 4.0. Thailand is known as “The Kitchen of the World”, and we promote this transition
to the country to ensure that everyone will be able to consume delicious, clean, safe, traceable, and environmentally-friendly food products.”
Mr.Arras emphasized on the important goals in the current food market around the world, adding that, “FPT has collaborated with several
partners in presenting a 4.0 solution for meat and sausage processing which we name ‘The Digital Path to Smart Factory’. For this solution,
we received the prestigious Food Safety Award, and we are in the process to create many new opportunities by connecting the customers’
shop floor to the devices of their “top floor” office. Data management and fully controlled production will be carried out with the highest efficiency,
just-in-time in every way.”
Obviously, food technology has been developing continuously, and it is waiting for us in every corner in the world. What remains is the
sharp decision to integrate this for maximizing benefits throughout the supply chain.
