BPO Categories in the Philippines
1Call Center - Call center accounted for 80% of BPO in the
country. The service is to provide information for customers,
taking orders and answering emails for employers, who 80%
are companies in theUS. Nowadays, thePhilippineshasmore than
100 call centersall over the country. Thebenefit of hiring call center
in thePhilippines is that Filipinos’ hiring cost is six times lower than
Americans, but many of them are able to speak clear American
English, and knowAmerican slangs. Moreover, many Filipinos are
keen toworkabroad, whichmakes themwell prepared for universal
opportunities. However, these facts are no surprise, as the country
once was another state of the US, and its education system relies
on the foundationof thoseof theUS, whichmakesFilipinos familiar
withAmerican culture.

is complicated and labour intense. Filipinos are familiar with
theUSmedical system, hencemany tasks are transfer to the
Philippines. Recently, medical records, medical history, diagnosis
report, surgery records, treatment data, recovery statistics, and

tomore than50 companiesbased in thePhilippines. Notable, these
works can be done bymedical secretariat, whom is not necessarily
required to be a physician. In Thailand, some universities start
providingmedical secretariat course, includingSuanDusitRajabhat
University.
3Accounting,LogisticsandBudget -ThePhilippines isbecoming
adatabacking-uphub formany largemultinational companies,
particularly those hold information related to account
management, payment, wage management, asset management,
financial analysis. account audit and credit card management, to
name a few, including cargomanagement and transportation.
4SoftwareDevelopment andAnimation -Thiscategory includes
webdesign,softwaredevelopmentandanimation.Thedemand
in thiscategory ishigh, particularly for computer games, smart
phone applications, film industry, online academic content, and
advertising. Many US filmmakers, such as Disney, Marvel, Warner
Bros. andHanna-Barbera, established branches in thePhilippines.
Retail Sector Expansion in Response to BPO Sector
Growth
The expansion of BPO businesses results in the rapidly growth of
middle class in the Philippines. During the past 3 years, shopping
malls, supermarkets, minimarts and convenience stores are seen
popped up three timesmore, increasing the commercial area from
1 million square metre in 2009 to 3 million square metre in 2013.
Despite their lowwage,which isonlyabout half ofThais, thecountry
hasaglobal reputationof its largenumber ofmegamalls spreading
across7bigcities, includingManilaandCebu.Moreover, remittanceof
overseasFilipinos isanothermaindriving factor tostimulatedomestic
purchasing power.
Interestingmodern trend forThai investors include;SMSupermalls,
RobinsonsMalls,AyalaMalls (rankedasoneof thebiggest shopping
malls in theworld),Gaisano, IsetannDepartment Store,Megaworld
Lifestyle Malls, Walter Mart, Ortigas Center, Starmalls, Greenfield
Development Corporation and NCCCMall. Potential Thai products
for the Philippines’ market include, food and beverage, consumer
goods,motor vehiclesandparts (particularlymotorcyclesandspare
parts), constructionmaterials, and clothing/fabrics.
