Antioxidant
from Grape Seed
Grape Seed Extract is a highly standardized procyanidin
a
extract, obtained from white grape seeds harvested
exclusively in France, in Champagne area. It contains
monomers of catechin and epicatechin, procyanidin
dimers, trimers and polymers identified and controlled
by HPLC test method.

Oligomeric procyanidins, more commonly known as OPC,
are phenolic compounds which are available in fruits, vegetables,
nuts. They can be found in grapes and more abundantly in seeds.
OPC are composed of a variable number of flavan units of
momomers catechin and epicatechin. The simplest procyanidins
are dimers, however trimers, tetramers and oligomers up to 10
units may be present in the procyanidin mixture of the grapes.
Benefits
Procyanidins have been reported to exhibit strong antioxidative
and free radical scavenging activities. Free radical production
occurs continuously in all cells as part of normal cellular function,
but in excess free radical production might play a role in many
diseases .
