Located in the southern hemisphere, with a land area of 756,026 km2 excluding its Antarctic territory, Chile is a long
and thin country that stretches 4,200 kilometers along the western coast of South America, and has a population of
16.6 million.

ลักษณะภู มิประเทศและสภาพภูมิศาสตรของชิ ลีมีความหลากหลาย นับ
เปนของขวัญจากธรรมชาติชิ้นสำคัญที่ สรางความแตกตางใหกับชิลีอันเปน
เอกลั กษณ และส งผลใหเศรษฐกิจในภาคอุตสาหกรรมมีการพัฒนาและ
เติบโตอยางรุ ดหนา อีกทั้งยังพรั่งพรอมไปดวยความโดดเดนของวัฒนธรรม
และสังคม
หากดูจากแผนที่แลว ประเทศชิ ลีครอบคลุมหลายเสนละติจูด อาจกล าว
ได ว าประเทศชิ ลี เปรี ยบเสมื อนเกาะที่ ปราศจากสั ตวรบกวนและ
ภั ยพิบั ติตางๆ ทั้งนี้ เนื่องจากสภาพภูมิ ประเทศในภาคเหนือเปนทะเลทราย-
อาตากามา อันเปนหนึ่ งในทะเลทรายที่แหงแล งที่สุดในโลก ภาคตะวั นออก
เปนเทือกเขาแอนดีส ซึ่งเปนพื้นที่สูงมีหิมะปกคลุมตลอดทั้ งป สภาพหนาวเย็น
เชนนี้ เปนปราการปองกั นแมลง นก และสิ่งมีชี วิตต างๆ ไดเปนอย างดี
ภาคตะวั นตกขนาบดวยมหาสมุทรแปซิ ฟก และภาคใต เปนพื้ นที่ของ
ทุงน้ำแข็งพาตาโกเนีย ซึ่งพืชตางๆ ไมสามารถอาศัยอยูรอดได ความแตกตาง
อยางสุดขั้วนี้ได เนรมิตใหสภาพภูมิอากาศในชิลีมีความหลากหลาย เหมาะสม
ที่จะปลูกผลไม เชน อะโวคาโด ผลไมตระกูลสม และมะกอก รวมทั้งผลไม
ที่ชอบสภาพอากาศเย็น เชน แอปเปล ไรองุน หรือฟารมปศุสัตว เชน แกะ
ตลอดจนปลาแซลมอนจากแหล งน้ำทางตอนใตของชิลี เปนตน
แหลงของอาหารนานาชนิด
ในชวง 2-3 ป ที่ผานมา ชิ ลีไดเสริมความแข็งแกร งของอุตสาหกรรมอาหาร
โดยพั ฒนาและผลักดันขอตกลงทางการคากั บนานาประเทศ ตลอดจน
พั ฒนากร ะบวนกา รผลิ ตและสนั บสนุ นสง เ สริ ม เ กษตรกรต นน้ ำ
อุตสาหกรรมอาหารนับเปนอุตสาหกรรมที่สามารถสรางงานไดกวารอยละ
20 ของภาคอุ ตสาหกรรมที่ต องการแรงงานทั้งหมด โดยอุตสาหกรรม
อาหารเติบโตกวารอยละ 10 ต อป ตลอดระยะเวลา 10 ปที่ผานมา
ชิลีได วางตำแหนงของประเทศเปนผูส งออกสินคาอาหารที่มีศั กยภาพ
จนกลายมาเปนผูนำในการสงออกผลไม และผลิ ตผลทางการเกษตรของ
ซีกโลกตอนล าง นอกจากนี้ ยังเปนผู ส งออกไวน ปลาแซลมอน และ
ผลิตภัณฑอาหารคุณภาพอันดับตนๆ ของโลกอีกดวย
Thanks to Natural Barriers
Chile has diverse natural landscape and geography providing the
country unique characteristics. The diverse geography has allowed
the development of an industry of great economic, social and cultural
richness, which forms an integral part of Chilean identity.
Chile has an extensive territory that spans different latitudes. The
country is then considered a phytosanitary and zoosanitary island
that is naturally protected against the entry of pests and plagues. In
the north, protection is provided by the Atacama Desert, one of the
world’s driest desert; in the east by the Andes Mountains, one of the
earth’s highest ranges with permanent snow cover that prevents
the entry of insects, birds and all living organisms; in the west by
the Pacific Ocean; and, in the south, by Patagonian ice fields where
almost no vegetable life can survive. Among these extremes, there
is a wide variety of climates allowing Chileans to produce subtropical
fruits such as avocado, citrus fruits and olives; as well as products
requiring cooler climates, such as apples, vineyards or livestock
such as Magallanic lamb, and salmon from the coldest waters of
Southern Chile.
Chile as Food Power
In the past few years, Chile has greatly strengthened its food
production sector by means of development of trade agreements
with other countries, as well as the continued improvement of its
productive process and support to farmers. The food sector creates
jobs for 20 percent of the nation’s workforce, with a stable annual
growth of 10 percent during the last decade.
Chile has transformed itself into an exporting power of foodstuffs,
becoming a leader in the southern hemisphere in exports of fruits
and produce, as well as being amongst the world’s top exporters of
wine, salmon, and other high quality products.
